On and off the water
Heritage Lives Here

Dorchester County is recognized for how its culture, recreational experiences, and quality of life intertwine to create a unique place. At the heart of this place lies Cambridge.

The city’s rich history runs as deep on land as it does on water. From enslaved peoples who forged paths of freedom along the Underground Railroad to the generations who’ve worked the bay to establish the watermen commerce trades still active today, Cambridge is rich in history and can-do-grit.

Water on
our minds

Water is always on our minds. What it sounds like, smells like, provides, and how we can experience it. Since time immemorial, humans have been captivated by water. Our emotional responses arise from some of the deepest parts of our being. We are awakened by the Choptank River — lured to create lasting memories along its shores.

Heritage of
People & Place

The Chesapeake watershed, specifically the Choptank biosphere, is our ecological heritage. Our maritime heritage stems from our robust history as the Choptank’s port of call. Lastly, and maybe most importantly, the diverse stories we have to share are some of our greatest assets. While some of our stories aren’t always of peace or prosperity, it is our collective story. This is our heritage.
