Matt Leonard

Executive Director

Matt Leonard moved with his wife to Cambridge, Maryland in December of 2019, choosing Cambridge as their forever home, renovating a fixer-upper house in town, primarily on their own.

Matt trained as a carpenter and then put himself through college. He completed a two-year civil engineering transfer program through Virginia’s Community College System, earning a BS in Organizational Management & Development from Bluefield College, VA, and holds an MS degree in Building & Construction Science from Virginia Tech. He is a graduate of Oklahoma University’s Economic Development Institute, and formerly Certified as a Mediator with the North Carolina Superior Court, and Virginia Circuit Court.

Matt’s professional career includes consulting to private businesses, municipalities, design firms and general contractors, with emphases in Strategic Planning, Economic and Community Development, Infrastructure Development, Organizational Development and Improvement, and Program and Project Management.

In January 2022, Matt accepted the position as Executive Director of Cambridge Waterfront Development, Inc. His unique mix of education, training and experience allow him to help CWDI improve as an organization while accelerating its mission to develop Cambridge Harbor. He is an internal Ex Officio member of all CWDI Committees.
