CWDI Receives $1 Million Rural Fund Grant
Press Release / December 16, 2022

On Wednesday, December 14, 2022 Cambridge Waterfront Development, Inc. (CWDI) was awarded $1,000,000 through the Rural Maryland Economic Development Fund. The grant fund, which is overseen by the Maryland Department of Commerce and administered by the five rural regional councils, was announced by Governor Hogan earlier this year to boost economic development activity, stimulate private sector investment, and create jobs in the state’s rural regions. When announcing the grant awards, Maryland Governor, Larry Hogan described them as “unprecedented investments” for transformative projects.

“We are grateful to the Governor’s continued commitment to rural Maryland in general,” said Matt Leonard, CWDI’s Executive Director, “and specifically to the Cambridge Harbor project.”

Leonard also expressed his gratitude to the Mid-Shore Regional Council, Dorchester County Economic Development, and the Dorchester County Council for their support at each step in the grant’s application and review process.

“This was a team effort,” Leonard said. “and proof that we can advance transformative projects when we all work together.”

CWDI will use the $1M grant to design the infrastructure improvements to and along the public roadways and rights-of-way being incorporated into the Cambridge Harbor development.

Cambridge Harbor is being developed into a highly activated waterfront district to include public spaces, amenities, and events focused on promoting the City of Cambridge and Dorchester County’s multi-faceted history, heritage, and culture while creating a unique destination for tourism.

CWDI is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit development corporation formed through a joint Agreement of the City of Cambridge, Maryland; Dorchester County, Maryland; and the State of Maryland. CWDI’s mission is to develop Cambridge Harbor in partnership with the community, to the benefit of the community, and to sustainably operate and maintain Cambridge Harbor as an inviting, accessible, active, and enjoyable place to live, work, play and visit.
